Where Do I Submit the Required Documents?
Each and every document must be turned in to a representative authority in your nation. Please remember that the visas are issued by the embassy or consulate that is the closest local office to you.
Should you want to visit multiple Schengen nations, the representative authority will be that of the nation in which you will be spending the majority of your time or serving as your primary travel destination.
You can search for a local authority here.
Should I Translate the Required Documents?
If your documents are not in English or German then you need to have them translated. You can do so at a court-certified translator within your country.
*Please note that the embassy does not provide translation services.
Should I Legalize the Required Documents?
You’ll probably need to legalise a few documents, depending on your place of origin. The Hague Convention-abiding nations just require an Apostille stamp. All public papers between its members are legally recognised, according to the Hague Convention.
Such documents include:
- Birth Certificate
- Marriage Certificate
- Divorce Papers
- Police Clearance Certification
Even though these papers are formally recognised, they nevertheless require an Apostille stamp. Apostille stamps are a type of notarization that allows your documents to be accepted from one nation to another.
Depending on your nation, a number of entities can issue an Apostille stamp. Nonetheless, you’ll discover that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs typically issues it.
If your nation does not abide by the Hague Convention, you will need to get in touch with the Austrian embassy to inquire about the legalisation process for your documents.
